LIVE: 24 hours Pele’s FUNERAL takes place in city of Santos.
TJ Sports USA is live from the city of Santos in Brazil, with the funeral of football legend Pele on Monday, January 2.
The Vila Belmiro Stadium in the state of Sao Paulo, home of the Santos FC, the team where Pele spent most of his career, will host the 2-day funeral service.
The body will then be taken through the streets of Santos to the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial for a private burial.
President Jair Bolsonaro declared three days of mourning after the news of Pele’s passing.
The most famous soccer player died at the age of 82 following a long battle with colon cancer. The former Brazilian striker was widely considered one of the greatest of all time.
He was named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee in 1999. His 1,279 goals in 1,363 games are recognized as a Guinness World Record.
