Demand for tattoos of footballing legend Lionel Messi has skyrocketed in Buenos Aires after La Albiceleste took home the 2022 World Cup.
“Oh, the number of tattoos we are doing of Messi, of the cup, of the date is impressive,” said tattoo artist Dario Vivas.
Footage shows football fanatics visiting the Bond Street Gallery in the Argentine capital’s Recoleta district to receive tattoos of Messi and other World Cup iconography.
“The truth is that for a few years now I have liked to portray or tattoo the things that mark me, and for me, the fact that Messi has been world champion, even more than Argentina, was more than enough reason to get him tattooed, a patron said.
“Another of the tattoos I got was when Diego died, for me the fact of having won the first World Cup in which he isn’t here is incredible, it closes a perfect story. I don’t know if it would have been as perfect if he had been alive,” he added.
Argentina beat France in the World Cup final to lift their third trophy, following victories in 1978 and 1986.
35-year-old Messi himself announced that the game would be his last in the tournament.
