George Russell’s Ultimate Act of Sportsmanship at the Saudi Arabian Jeddah Grand Prix.
Mercedes F1 driver George Russell showcased his sportsmanship, kindly returning the Saudi Arabian Jeddah Grand Prix third-place trophy to Fernando Alonso.
After celebrating what was initially believed to be the 100th podium of his career in Sunday’s race, the Spaniard was demoted to fourth-place courtesy of a 10-second penalty issued by the race officials.
Mercedes’ Russell was pushed up to third in his place and was awarded the subsequent trophy away from the presentation, only for the ruling to be overturned later that evening following a successful appeal by Alonso’s Aston Martin team.
Competitive rivalries were set aside in the aftermath, with the pair engaging in an entertaining exchange on social media, culminating in Russell cleaning the trophy one last time before being hand-delivered to the nearby Aston Martin HQ in Silverstone.
